Torment-Forbidden Traverse: A Classic North Cascades Grade V
Discover the history and position of Climbing the Torment- Forbidden Traverse
The Torment-Forbidden Traverse is one of the North Cascades' classic long committing alpine traverses. This adventure takes you from camp to the toe of the South Ridge of Torment Peak. Here, you'll climb moderate rock or snow en route to the Torment Peak summit. Downclimbing and rappels leads to more scrambling then another rappel onto the pocket glacier, scramble back up to the ridge proper for the traverse between the peaks for the 2nd night bivy. The 3rd day leads up pitch after pitch of classic ridge climbing up rocky gendarmes to the west ridge and summit of Forbidden Peak. Descend by down climbing and rappelling the uber classic West Ridge, into the rappells of the Cat Scratch Gullies, and back onto the Pocket Glacier and then return to camp for a 3rd night or the walk out.

- 3-Day Climb: Focuses primarily on ascending the complete Torment-Forbidden Traverse.
- 4-Day Adventure: Includes additional time for pacing or weather.

Itinerary
- Day 1: Gear check, hike into camp, introduce and rehearse multipitch climbing techniques.
- Day 2: Climb then traverse over to the Bivy or use as a weather day.
- Day 3: Climb spectacular rock ridge lines up to the Forbidden Peak Summit, descend down the Cat Scratch Gullies and hike out to the trailhead. Or stay another night.
