Mount Shuksan Sulphide Glacier Climb
Sulphide Glacier Route Mount Shuksan: The next step up from Mt Baker
The next step up from Mt Baker is a 3-day adventure on the iconic Sulphide Glacier route of Mount Shuksan, one of Washington's mountaineering progression. Our meticulously planned trip includes 2 nights on the mountain, ensuring a sustainable pace and ample time to soak in the beauty of this glaciated massif. This climb blends forest approach along Shannon Ridge, then cross into North Cascades National Park to our alpine camp on the Sulphide Glacier Slabs, then we travel roped up on the Sulphide glacier, to one our summit options via the Central Gulley (class 3-4) or the SE Rib (YDS 5.3) to final summit pyramid with broad sweeping summit views across Mount Baker, Challenger Peak, the Pickets, Dakobed ( Glacier Peak) and the Mount Baker Ski area. We then rappel and down climb the Central Gulley and retrace our steps back down the SUlphide Glacier and back to camp for a warm meal and alpenglow.
As we ascend the Sulphide Glacier route, the snow and glacier covered slopes of North Cascades surround us, stunning views of the glacial and volcanic formed Baker Lake, and into the isolated deep North Cascades.
