Itinerary

  • Day 1: On our first day we meet in the morning and complete a gear check at the Guided Exposure Headquarters in Glacier Washington. We drive up Glacier Creek Road to the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead and skin directly from our cars. We make our way up to the Hogsback and Heliotrope Ridge to camp below the Black Buttes at 7,000'
  • Day 2: From our camp we ascended the standard Coleman Glacier route to its saddle with Colfax Peak at 9,000’. From the col we skin directly onto Colfax. Then we boot pack to Colfax's 9,355’ subsummit. Transition to downhill and descend to the Colfax subsummit saddle. Good cramponing allow us to climb up the final slope to the higher 9,439’ Colfax Summit.
  • Day 3: From the lower Deming Glacier we easily ascend up the middle Deming Glacier and towards the standard Easton Glacier route. Continue up the Easton to near the active Sherman crater we traverse the upper Squak Glacier to the base of the west ridge of Mount Sherman. Then up Sherman’s south ridge descend 40-degree slopes on the upper Talum Glacier high above Baker and Shannon Lakes. Then we turn onto the 35-40 degree slope of the North East Face of Mount Sherman. This led us onto the Boulder Glacier. We continue descending towards the Boulder/Park Cleaver and Camp in the flats of the cleaver, over looking Mount Shuksan and North Cascades National Park
  • Day 4: On the last day we ascend the Boulder/ Park cleaver route. Skinning the upper Boulder Glacier all the way to Kulshan's summit. From here our descent goes down from the Kulshan summit towards the Cockscomb Ridge. Once at the Cockscomb Tower we ride onto the Park Glacier face and onto the Mazama Glacier. Descending along the Roosevelt Glacier we pass onto the Coleman/Roosevelt cleaver. A short skin then boot pack up to Harrison Camp and easy skinning across the snow-covered creeks bring us back to the trailhead.
