1-Day AIARE 2 Refresher Course – Mt. Baker & Snoqualmie
This 1-day course is designed for backcountry travelers seeking build upon your AIARE 2 avalanche knowledge in a 1 day format. The course combines self-paced online learning and an intensive field day.
The AIARE 1 Avalanche Course Refresher is for ANYONE, regardless of method of travel, who wants to recreate in or near avalanche terrain. Our AIARE 2 Refresher surpasses national standards by offering a full day of in person instruction starting at our classroom in Glacier Washington and traveling in the unparalleled Mount Baker backcountry.
Our AIARE Refresher course include self paced online learning modules provided by the award winning American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) with a pro AIARE Course Leader, no course instructors are assigned. That's more time in the North Cascade Mountains with professional mentorship than almost every course out there. That means less time sitting inside suffering from power point fatigue talking about it and more time out there doing it!
Students can expect an introduction to avalanche hazard management, to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught).

Goals
- Hazard Identification: Differentiate where specific avalanche hazards exist within the landscape and identify terrain where avalanche consequences are more severe.
- Observation and Analysis: Use and interpret weather, snow, and avalanche observations to select appropriate terrain before and during field travel.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrate leadership within a small team, facilitate group discussions, promote appropriate terrain selection, and utilize risk management strategies.
- Forecasting: Implement a basic forecasting framework to use with or without local supporting avalanche information.
