Women’s Intro to Backcountry Touring

Women’s Intro to Backcountry Touring is a supportive field-based course for women and female-identifying skiers and splitboarders who want to learn the foundations of traveling outside the resort. This course focuses on gear, movement, transitions, pacing, communication, and building confidence in a welcoming environment.

This is a great first step before AIARE 1, a women’s mentorship day, or a longer backcountry progression series. The goal is to help participants feel more comfortable with their equipment and the flow of a guided touring day.

Course Focus

  • Touring equipment: Understand your ski or splitboard touring setup.
  • Efficient movement: Practice skinning, transitions, and group pacing.
  • Downhill confidence: Build tactics for variable snow and riding with a pack.
  • Community: Learn with women and female-identifying backcountry travelers.

Best For

  • Women and female-identifying skiers or splitboarders new to touring.
  • Strong resort skiers or riders who want to move into the backcountry.
  • Guests looking for a supportive first step before AIARE 1 or mentorship days.
