      FAQ's

This course is built for backcountry skiers, splitboarders, mountaineers, and climbers who travel on glaciers and want practical systems for managing crevasse hazards while using ski or splitboard equipment.

The ski and splitboard version focuses on glacier safety systems through the lens of winter and spring touring, including travel with skis or a splitboard, transitions, snow anchors, and rescue practice relevant to glaciated ski terrain.

Students practice knots, hitches, rope ascending, snow anchors, hauling systems, lowering techniques, communication, and efficient team response for glaciated backcountry travel.

Early spring courses are commonly held near the Mount Baker Ski Area, while summer sessions may move onto Mount Baker glacier terrain. Final location depends on weather, access, and snow conditions.

Bring your ski or splitboard touring setup, avalanche safety gear when applicable, helmet, harness, glacier travel gear, layers, food, water, and weather protection. A final gear list is sent before the course.
