Led by AMGA Splitboard Guide Jere Burrell, this course aims to elevate your splitboard mountaineering skills while imparting proficiency in navigation, snow camping, and technical descents using ropes.

This course is ideal for those with advanced riding abilities on terrain up to 50 degrees in variable snow conditions such as spring corn and wind buffed pow, strong skinning skills on side hills with split crampons, and excellent fitness for four days of spectacular travel, riding steeper glaciated terrain, and mountaineering with ice axes and crampons. Itinerary
- Day 1: Meet and greet, gear check, and travel to camp on the glacier.
- Day 2: Engage in roped glacier travel and route finding, self-arrest techniques and limitations, and rappelling for splitters. Enjoy a warm-up ride before moving to the next camp.
- Day 3: Dig into splitboard specific snow anchors, crevasse rescue, navigation, belayed riding, and ride from a summit, descending to our next camp.
- Day 4: Put all acquired skills to the test during a summit climb and descent. Return to the trailhead.
Learning Objectives
- Crevasse Rescue: Master essential rescue techniques such as rope ascending and descending, 3:1 Z Drag, 6:1 drop "C" and group rescue for glaciated terrain.
- Ice Axe Techniques for Descending: Improve your ability to descend and assess the use and feasibility of safely using an ice axe.
- Rope Usage in Steep Terrain: Gain confidence in handling ropes from kiwi coils and snow bollard rappels to belayed riding and Ice Rappels on "V" threads during challenging descents.
- Multi-day Traverse Expertise: Refine the day in and day out skills for extended splitboarding journeys by settling into camp, staying warm dry and well fed, assessing for crevasses, packing back up and ready for another day exploring the wild.
- Complex Glaciated Terrain Route Finding: Learn to navigate tricky glaciated routes by avoiding crevasse bridges, anticipating crevasses based upon glacier flow, overcoming bergschrunds.
- Belayed Riding: Offering security while investigating new terrain, assessing crevasse crossings, or enhance your ability to ride safely with the support of a guided belay to build mental fortitude
- Rappelling: Master rappelling techniques for splitboard mountaineering.
- Snow Anchors: Understand the importance and application of splitboard specific snow anchors in mountaineering. No ski anchors here.
