The Joy of Splitboarding is a season-long progression series for women and female-identifying splitboarders who want to build skills, confidence, and joy in the backcountry. Through hands-on instruction, avalanche education, guided mentorship, and community connection, participants build the tools to move toward bigger goals at their own pace in a supportive environment.

Series Course Dates:
- Day 1 - Welcome & Warm Up Tour December 19th 2025
- Day 2 - AIARE Rescue January 2nd 2026
- Day 3 - Guide Led Mentorship Tour January 16th 2026
- Day 4 - Participant Led Tour February 20th 2026
By the end of the series, participants will:
- Feel more comfortable and efficient with splitboard gear.
- Develop avalanche awareness and practical rescue skills.
- Ride with more confidence in variable snow and terrain.
- Gain experience on mentored tours and apply learning in a group-planned tour.
- Connect with a supportive community of female-identifying riders and mentors.
About Your Guide
Your guide, Jess Trimble, has been splitboarding in the Cascades for over 10 years and teaching avalanche courses since 2022. Jess designed this program to support female splitboarders and share her passion for powder, learning, and community.
Course Overview
- Skill Development: Practice uphill movement, transitions, kick turns, and downhill tactics.
- Avalanche Awareness: Build a stronger foundation for recognizing hazards and making informed decisions.

- Progression Pathway: Move from foundational skills toward planning and participating in tours with more independence.

Best For
Participants should be confident resort riders with:
- At least 3 years of resort riding experience.
- Comfort riding variable snow conditions.
- Practice riding a splitboard setup before the course.
- AIARE 1 preferred or a plan to take a women’s AIARE 1 course.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Welcome & Warm Up Tour
Meet in Glacier, check gear, and head into the Mount Baker area for a warm-up tour focused on gear setup, transitions, skinning technique, kick turns, downhill movement, comfort, and confidence.
Day 2 – Avalanche Rescue
A one-day rescue course focused on practical companion rescue skills and field practice.
Day 3 – Mentorship Day: Guide-Led Tour
A mentored backcountry tour where participants practice route planning, track setting, terrain management, and group travel with guide support.
Day 4 – Leadership Day: Group-Planned Tour
Participants apply the skills gained throughout the series while planning and participating in a supported group tour.

Who is The Joy of Splitboarding for?
This series is for women and female-identifying splitboarders who want a supportive progression pathway for building touring skills, confidence, and community in the backcountry.
Do I need previous splitboarding experience?
Participants should be confident resort riders and should practice riding their splitboard setup before the course. Previous touring experience is helpful but the series is designed as a progression.
Is AIARE 1 required?
AIARE 1 is preferred but not required. Participants are encouraged to take a women’s AIARE 1 course or have similar foundational avalanche education.
What does the progression series include?
The series includes a warm-up tour, avalanche rescue day, guide-led mentorship tour, and participant-led progression day focused on applying skills in the field.
Who guides the women’s splitboarding series?
The series is led by Jess Trimble, a Cascades splitboarder and avalanche educator who designed the program to support female splitboarders in a welcoming learning environment.
