Experience the thrill of Mount Baker's easily accessible big mountain terrain, renowned for producing some of the worlds best free riders. Our 2-day Advanced Ski Touring course is designed to refine your terrain assessment skills, build confidence with steep skiing technique, and execute expert tours that fulfill your steep powder-riding dreams.

Course Overview

During this 2-day course, Backcountry skiers will focus on cultivating a repeatable approach to advanced ski touring, gradually building your confidence on moderate terrain and snow and take an incremental approach to tackle challenging terrain. You'll get the chance to ski iconic Baker Backcountry lines such Little AK, Diamond Trees, and the Stoneman Couloir.

Rope Skills Introduction

While not the primary focus, we may introduce rope skills for steep skiers, including belayed riding, rappelling, and basic snow anchors. This course complements our 4-Day Ski Mountaineering program, providing a well-rounded skill set that will carry you through the worlds best backcountry.

  • Navigating Steep Rollover Descents: Gain confidence identifying landmarks anticipating turn style, and establishing observational movement.
  • Anticipating Snow Changes: Develop the ability to anticipate and adapt to changing snow conditions.

  • Skiers with more than 1 year of touring experience
  • Ability to proficiently skin 2,000+ vertical feet per day
  • Comfortably ski 35-degree terrain in various snow conditions
  • AIARE 1 certification preferred
