Learning Outcomes

  • Glacier Travel: Master the techniques required for safe and efficient travel across glaciers. Including crevasse avoidance, rope tension, rope intervals, compression and tensions zones
  • Crevasse Rescue: Learn and practice crevasse rescue techniques to ensure safety on glaciated terrain. Including 3:1, 5:1, and 6:1 mechanical advantage, self rescue, and rope ascending. 
  • Snow Anchors: Understand how to build and use snow anchors for various mountaineering applications and snow conditions.
  • Knots & Hitches: Gain proficiency in essential knots and hitches used in ski mountaineering.
  • Rope Use: Learn to use the rope with a belay while descending steep and icy slopes.
  • Self-Arrest: Develop self-arrest skills to stop a fall on steep snow and ice while skiing or cramponing.
  • Winter Camping: Acquire the skills for setting up and living comfortably in a winter camp including water, staying warm and dry, and site location. 
  • Secure Riding Movement: Enhance your riding technique to handle variable snow conditions

  • Strong Intermediate or Higher Skiers and Splitboarders: Ideal for those with solid skiing or riding abilities and experience in skinning.
  • Fit Adventurers: Participants should be able to ascend 4,700 vertical feet over 4 miles in a day and a total of 7,200 vertical feet over 12 miles round trip.
  • Backcountry Enthusiasts: Those with moderate or above fitness levels, ready for 4 days of continuous activity in the mountains.
