Itinerary
Day 1:
- Gear check in Glacier, WA.
- Hike to base camp at Hogs Back or Sandy Camp.
- Introduction to essential skills: ice axe and crampon use, self-arrest, and roped glacier travel.
Day 2:
- Practice and refine skills mountaineering skills.
- Optional summit attempt and return to camp.
Day 3:
- Summit attempt (if not done on Day 2) and descend to base camp.
- Hike out to the trailhead.
Learning Objectives
Participants will gain hands-on experience with:
- Ice Axe and Crampons: Learn and practice essential techniques such as cross over, duck step, and inbalance steps.
- Roped Glacier Travel: Navigate glacial terrain with appropriate rope tension and spacing
- Self-Arrest Techniques: Master critical safety skills for roped glacier travel in the event of a crevasse fall.
- Crevasse Rescue: When time permits, practice essential rescue techniques.
