Come join us on our annual Mount Rainier Climb via the Emmon's Glacier Route. This 4 day trip ascends the beautiful Emmon's Glacier over 4 days and 3 nights from July 10th - July 13th.
This is a great trip for intermediate and advanced mountaineers that want to climb Mount Rainier on a wilder side of the mountain. The Emmons Glacier is typically a longer glacier route that remains relatively non technical. At low ratios of 4 total guest and 2 guides, or a 2:1 guest to guide ratio, if conditions become more challenging we are able to adapt to the new conditions with short belayed sections of steep snow or ice. But don't worry most of the time it's a beautiful scenic walk up one of the Cascades most iconic volcanoes.
Our 4 day trip starts off with a gear check the night before our departure in Greenwater Washington. The next day we plan to hike up the Interglacial to high camp overlooking the lower Emmons and Interglaciers. On day 2 we have a short walk from camp, onto the lower Emmons, and up to Camp Schurman at 9,500'. This short day is preceding 2 of our potential summit days. Ideally on day 3 we arise with an alpine start and climb under headlamp as the alpenglow casts over the Emmons easterly aspects. Gradually the morning turns to day and we wander up the mountain to the summit. We return to camp and enjoy all our hard work and the reward of the summit. Day 4 has the option to summit and walk out if weather and conditions determine this. But normally we walk out from Camp Schurman, down the Interglacial, back into the forest, and out to the White River Trailhead in time to grab a burger and beverages in town.
- Prior experience with ice axe, crampons, and glacier travel preferred but not required
- Those with strong fitness for 4 days on the mountain
- Someone who has summited Mount Baker (not required)
